Writing Then Reading, Second Edition

Choose a work from the museum's collections, then write a text, guided by an author. And finally read it. This is the project undertaken by a group of participants learning French, with the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Reims.

A new series of workshops with the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Reims

Following the enthusiasm of participants during the production of subjective capsules about the collections of the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Reims in autumn 2022, the Musée Nomade* decided to repeat the experience at the very end of the year. This time, the group from the socio-linguistic workshops at the Orgeval community center participated in the project: during 5 sessions of 2 hours each, participants first chose a work from the collection of the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Reims, assisted by a mediator, then, accompanied by Muriel, an author, they wrote a subjective text appealing to the senses—sight, hearing, touch, taste… A workshop dedicated to public speaking enabled them to acquire some tools and a bit more confidence before reading their text into the microphone. The capsules produced express each person’s sensitivity to these chosen works and convey their dedication to sharing them with others. They have now been added to our online library.

With Cheng, Marilyne, Jacques, Danièle, Christine, Maguy, and Carmela, authors and readers of their texts. With Muriel Michaux, actress and author, Yoën Cousot-Paoli, sound engineer. *The Musée Nomade is a cultural, social, and civic initiative. This project aims to reach out to residents so they can take ownership of the future Musée des Beaux-Arts and its collections. Currently located in the northeast area of Reims, it is intended to move throughout the city’s neighborhoods. Thank you to Paul Cartier, mediator, and Laure Piel, Head of Public Services at the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Reims.
